The Holy Trinity Church
Coordonate GPS: 44.111973,24.347131

The Holy Trinity Church, situated downtown, very close to the Heroes Monument, has been for a very long time known as The Red Church, because it has been built of brick and has functioned for a long time without any plastering on the outside. The church was built in 1647 (7155) by Pan Pascal vel Căpitan, in the shape of a nave, and it was restored by Varlaam the Chronicler. A diptych from 1853 reminds us of Mihai Viteazul, Matei Vodă, Radu V. and Ştefania the Nun. On a marble plate situated above the entrance, it is specified that „this holy church was entirely restored by Lady Stana, wife of the late Dincă Mihai Moga, in 1881“. This restoration has changed the shape of the church, from nave to cross, with the area of 130 sqm, the height of 9 m, and the steeple of 16 m high.

The entire history of the church is found in the inscription next to the entrance that says „With the will of the Father, with the help of the Son and with the work of the Holy Spirit, this holy and godly church has been built, celebrating the „Holy Trinity“ in the redemption year 1646, by Pan Pascal Căpitan.

Between 1881-1882, it was rebuilt by Lady Stana of the late Dincă Mihail Moga, being given the shape of the cross, when the painting was renewed as well, in the oil technique, by Mihalache Dragomirescu of Bucharest.

The painting was also repaired in 1937 by the painter Velici of Turnu-Severin, when the adornments were made, still in the oil technique.“

The initial painting of the church was executed in Renaissance style by Mihalache Dragomirescu, apprentice of the great painter Gh. Tăttărăscu, in 1871, as one may read in a corner of the scene depicting the Carrying of the Holy Cross.

To the left of the entrance, in the pro-nave, there is the portrait of His Holiness, Bishop Iosif of Râmnic, and to the right, the portraits of the restorer Stana Dincă Moga, of His Holiness, Bishop Gherasim of Râmnic and of Priest Dimitrie Coconu, the last two being made during the restoration of 1998. This was the year when a porch was built, in continuation of the church, where the candlesticks holding the candles are placed, which contributes to the protection of the painting. Around the church, there used to be much more graves, but when the land was reduced, in order to build apartment buildings, only one Holy Cross was preserved, bearing the inscription: „Here lie Andrei and his wife Constantina - 1866“.

The servants of the church are Vicar Coconu Ionuţ and Priest II Vlad Daniel. The church has only a few valuables. It is in the list of historical monuments, having the identification code OT-II-m-B-08800.
